Bananas Foster
Bananas Foster
Sweet and Spiced! Evoking the swanky elegance of New Orleans at its peak of midcentury mania for all things big, bold, and decadent, Honest John Bananas Foster Bitters are compatible with a myriad of cocktail and cookery applications.
The origin story goes something like this: One night in 1951, at Brennan’s original Vieux Carré restaurant, owner Owen Brennan asked his sister Ella to come up with a new dessert to commemorate his friend Richard Foster’s appointment as chairman of the New Orleans Crime Commission. Challenge accepted, Ella and Chef Paul Blangé whipped up the rich, sinful pièce de résistance as a refined interpretation of her mother’s celebratory breakfast treat of caramelized bananas, and took the entire glamorous spectacle up several notches with warm spices and a heavy pour of rum, flambéed tableside. Honest John Bananas Foster Bitters are an ode to Ella Brennan and seekers of culinarily inspired fuel for creative fires of all sorts.
Using all-natural ingredients such as real banana and vanilla bean, these decadent bitters are a well-balanced and transcendent addition to standards like a Whiskey Sour or Rum Runner, and perfectly suited for tiki tipples of endless variety. Flambé for full effect optional, but enthusiastically encouraged.
